Over on the Court Suzanne Lenglen, Britain’s Cameron Norrie is marching towards victory despite a hostile atmosphere backing the homegrown talent of Lucas Pouille.

Carlos Alcaraz advances at Roland Garros! He sees off the stern competitiveness of Taro Daniel to win in four sets. It’s a good run out for the No. 1 seed who will be looking to impress and reach the latter stages of the tournament.

Alcaraz breaks Daniel’s resistance to take a fourth consecutive game and is now on the verge of a second round victory. The No. 1 seed will serve to win the match.

There’s a flicker of a fightback from Taro Daniel, mainly due to Alcaraz’s misplaced strokes, as the 30-year-old forces the next game to deuce.

Alcaraz composes himself though and notches up the next couple of points to claim the game and a lead of two in the fourth set.

A break for Alcaraz! The Spaniard takes control of the fourth set and edges ahead of Daniel, can he hold serve and complete the break in the next game?

Alcaraz responds with a confident and competent service game of his own to draw level at 2-2 in the fourth set. The next break of serve may prove crucial to the outcome of this one.

A hold of serve for Taro Daniel and he does so without losing a point, nor breaking a sweat. After the third set there was a danger that Carlos Alcaraz could run away with this match but Daniel is sticking in there brilliantly and doing his best to stay one step ahead.

After taking the opening game Alcaraz makes a couple of unforced errors, first missing the open court at 15-15 then smoking a backhand into the net to give Daniel a couple of break points.

Daniel only needs one! He breaks back immediately and the fourth set is well and truly alive.

Carlos Alcaraz is really ticking now. Taro Daniel gets the fourth set started with his first service game but can’t keep up with the power and trickery of the No.1 seed.

A passing winner sends the Spaniard 0-30 up before an overhit forehand gives Daniel his first point. 15-30.
