Jigeen Ñi – or The Women, as they’re known in English - is a unique ensemble in Senegal: all the band members are women.
Their work is full of rhythms from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, weaving styles such as Afro, blues, reggae, hip hop, jazz, mbalakh, salsa, and zouk.
Jigeen Ñi has had to fight hard to make a space for themselves in a cultural environment dominated by men.
Now, they want to pave the way for other women into Senegal's music industry
