Rupert Grint and his long-term girlfriend Georgia Groome have become parents, after giving birth to a baby girl.

On Thursday, a representative for the couple confirmed to People that Groome, 28, had given birth to the couple’s first child.

“Rupert Grint and Georgia Groome are delighted to confirm the birth of their baby girl,” the representative said in a statement. “We would please ask that you respect their privacy at this very special time.”

As of now, the couple has not revealed the name of the child.

The news comes after it was announced in April that the couple, who have been dating since 2011, were expecting a child.

While Grint, 31, who played Ronald Weasley in the Harry Potter films, has not yet commented on the birth, he has previously discussed his desire to become a father.

In a 2018 interview with The Guardian, Grint revealed that he would like to “settle down and have kids soon”.

“Turning 30 felt strange. It just doesn’t feel like I’m there yet and I don’t know what the future holds,” he said. “I’m just going to go with the flow, keep playing interesting characters, and see what happens. I’d like to settle down and have kids soon.”

It doesn’t seem likely that Grint will look to the Wizarding World for name inspiration, however, as he turned down the idea of naming his future child after his Harry Potter character, telling the outlet at the time: “If I had a son, would I call him Ron? It’s quite a good name, but probably not. And Grint’s a tough name to pair a one-syllable first name with.”

Ahead of the birth, Daniel Radcliffe expressed his joy over his fellow Harry Potter co-star becoming a father.

“I’m sure he’s going to be an amazing dad,” Radcliffe told The Inquirer, adding: “As soon as I found out, I texted him.

“I’m incredibly happy for him. He and Georgia have been together for a while. It’s really exciting. It is crazy to think because it’s in my head. It still feels like we’ve basically just met and we are about 16 years old.”
