Serge Gnabry hailed Bayern Munich’s team spirit in keeping the “incredible talent” of Paris Saint-Germain at bay to win the Champions League final.

Bayern weathered a first-half storm as PSG created some clear sights of goal but failed to convert, and took advantage when Kingsley Coman steered home a header at the far post on the hour mark to win 1-0.

The victory completed a perfect European campaign by Bayern who won every single one of their Champions League games, and Gnabry credited their togetherness under manager Hansi Flick.

“Winning that trophy is the best thing that could happen to us at the end of a long season, we worked so hard,” the 25-year-old winger said. “It’s the final, Paris wanted to win, we wanted to win, it was always going to be difficult. In the end we came through and that’s all that matters.

“They had chances, they have incredible talent – Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria – it’s not easy to always stop them but luckily they didn’t score. King helped us extremely, because one against one we knew it would be difficult for the opponent.

“The spirit in this team is crazy, we fight for each other, we have a strong bond, and we hope we can build on this and achieve even more in the future.”
