New video shows Donald Trump literally unable to say he lost election
Donald Trump has lashed out at the January 6 committee calling their investigation “persecution” and denouncing the witnesses who have testified about his actions.
Speaking at a rally in Arizona on Friday night, the former president told the crowd: “They want to damage me in any form so I can no longer represent you.”
At the latest hearing of the committee, amid damning details of Mr Trump’s inaction during the attacks on Congress, the panel screened outtakes from a speech he gave on 7 January, and two administration staffers who resigned after the Capitol riot testified in person.
Vice chair Liz Cheney said at the close of the hearing that the committee would hold further sessions in September to unveil further evidence it is still receiving. “Doors have opened, new subpoenas have been issued, and the dam has begun to break,” she said.
Meanwhile, Steve Bannon has been found guilty of contempt after ignoring a subpoena from the House Select Committee investigating the insurrection on January 6.
The former Trump advisor was found guilty on two counts of contempt and he’s now facing a mandatory minimum sentence in jail of between 30 days and a year.
Capitol rioter who wanted to kill Pelosi jailed for 60 days
A Capitol rioter who said she wanted to kill Nancy Pelosi has been sentenced to 60 days in jail by a court.
At the hearing on Thursday on Dawn Bancroft’s case, district judge Emmet Sullivan said: “Those comments, Mrs Bancroft, are not acceptable in a democratic society.”
“I feel bad for you, I feel bad for you that you made these comments.”
Ms Bancroft had filmed a selfie video as she left the Capitol building on 6 January, in which she said: “We were looking for Nancy to shoot her in the friggin’ brain but we didn’t find her.”

Video: Trump literally unable to say he lost election
In a newly released video presented by the select committee probing the attack on the US Capitol, Donald Trump is seen literally unable to say he lost the 2020 election.
During the eighth of its televised summer hearings, the panel played outtakes from the recording of a 7 January 2021 speech in which the then-president was meant to condemn the violence that unfolded the day before.

New York Post editorial board publishes scathing critique of Trump
The New York Post editorial board has published a scathing critique of former President Donald Trump following Thursday’s primetime January 6 committee hearing.
Shaming Mr Trump for his inaction as his supporters stormed the Capitol for more than three hours on that day in 2021, the board notes that he was the only person the crowd would listen to, terming what happened as “incitement by silence”.
The editorial concludes by saying that Mr Trump has proven himself unworthy to return to the White House.
To his eternal shame, as appalled aides implored him to publicly call on his followers to go home, he instead further fanned the flames by tweeting: “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution.”
His only focus was to find any means — damn the consequences — to block the peaceful transfer of power.
There is no other explanation, just as there is no defense, for his refusal to stop the violence.
It’s up to the Justice Department to decide if this is a crime. But as a matter of principle, as a matter of character, Trump has proven himself unworthy to be this country’s chief executive again.

What’s next for the January 6 probe?
This isn’t the end of the Capitol riot story.
The House committee investigating the deadly events of a fateful, chilly January day — now a year and a half in the past — has wrapped up its hot summer series of televised hearings, each featuring revelatory details about the day of violence itself or the weeks of efforts by President Donald Trump and his allies to overturn his 2020 election loss.
But the Jan. 6 committee is preparing for more hearings in September, and investigations persist in multiple jurisdictions and venues. New details will be unearthed. Additional criminal cases against the rioters who stormed the Capitol are a safe bet. Other prosecutions — Georgia Republicans were recently warned they could face charges — could be on the horizon, too.
Here’s a look at what lies ahead:

Trump allies planning to gut civil service if he returns to White House
In October 2020, then-president Donald Trump signed an executive order that would’ve allowed him to fire a broad swath of the nonpartisan civil servants who run the day-to-day operations of every part of the US government. Now, his allies are laying the groundwork for him to follow through on that plan if he retakes the presidency in 2025.

Home state paper calls Hawley ‘fleeing coward'
The home state paper of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley panned the Republican as a “fleeing coward” in response to the footage released by the January 6 committee which showed him scampering through the halls away from the Capitol rioters mere hours after he was photographed raising a fist in solidarity with the mob.
“Josh Hawley is a laughingstock,” wrote the editorial board for the Kansas City Star, the newspaper that covers the city where Sen Hawley spent most of his childhood and adolescent years.
