Australia take on New Zealand this weekend for the fourth time in five consecutive weekends as the Rugby Championship continues, with the Wallabies looking to bounce back from last weekend’s humiliating defeat.

With both sides going through something of a post-World Cup transition, fans were prepared for the unexpected in a four-game series that included the Bledisloe Cup clashes before the start of the Rugby Championship, following South Africa’s withdrawal and Argentina’s requirement to quarantine ahead of their participation Down Under.

But after a 16-16 draw in the opening contest in Wellington, the All Blacks returned to winning ways with a comfortable 27-7 win in Auckland. The Wallabies hoped that returning to home advantage would bring a change in fortunes, but it produced the complete opposite as New Zealand romped to a 43-5 victory that in truth could have been even larger.

After the Sydney defeat last weekend, the two teams head to Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium where Australia will be hoping for an upset victory to get back into title contention.

One thing that may sway the game in their favour is Ian Foster’s decision to deploy an ‘experimental’ side for the clash, although any side that can boast Beauden Barrett at fly-half and four World Cup winners in the starting XV is still one to be feared. In response, Australia named their third different fly-half in four Tests with Reece Hodge installed at No 10, following James O’Connor and Noah Lolesio.
