Carrie Symonds has shut down claims that her and Boris Johnson‘s dog is being rehomed before their baby is born.

On Wednesday, Ms Symonds, who is engaged to the prime minister, responded to a tweet that showed a photograph of an article with the headline: “Downing St dog to be reshuffled.”

In the article, which was published in The Times, it was claimed that the couple’s Jack Russell cross could be “quietly rehomed” before Ms Symonds gives birth in the summer.

The report stated that Ms Symonds and Mr Johnson had “grown weary” of their dog, having adopted him from an animal rescue shelter in south Wales last year.

In her response, the 31-year-old described the assertion that her adopted dog Dilyn would be rehoused as “total crap”.

“What a load of total crap! There has never been a happier, healthier and more loved dog than our Dilyn,” the former Conservative Party head of communications wrote.

“100 per cent bs. The people behind this story should be ashamed of themselves.”

The end of the article in question included a statement from a Downing Street spokesperson, who said the notion of Dilyn being rehoused was “completely untrue”.

Ms Symonds has pinned her tweet concerning her dog on Twitter, meaning that until it is unpinned, it will remain at the top of her profile.

Having formerly worked in communications for the Conservative Party, Ms Symonds now holds the position of senior advisor at ocean conservation charity Oceana.

On the Oceana website, it states that Ms Symonds is “passionate about protecting the oceans and marine life, particularly by reducing plastic pollution”.

While it is unclear when Ms Symonds and Mr Johnson first met, their relationship first became public shortly after the politician announced he would be divorcing his wife of 25 years, Marina Wheeler, in September 2018.

Mr Johnson and Ms Wheeler have four children together, ranging in age from 20 to 26.
