An intriguing first-half comes to an end. Chelsea were the more assured side early on, passing with their usual tempo and giving the visitors very little to work with. But United have since grown more adventurous and towards the end of the half looked the more likely to open the scoring. The big talking point, of course, is the decision not to award a penalty when Hudson-Odoi appeared to handle in the box.

Fernandes meets a long pass from Lindelof with a cushioned header towards Rashford. Kante, rushing back to intercept, almost causes a problem for his own goalkeeper, diverting the ball narrowly wide of the near post. From the corner, Mendy just about manages to punch clear.

Chelsea are caught out trying to work the ball out of defence. Fred drives forward, but he’s held up. Fernandes then finds space to shoot and his effort is deflected wide. Nothing comes of the corner.

Another injury stoppage. Lindelof catches Ziyech on the head with a flailing arm.

Giroud is back on and play restarts. United immediately go long in search of Rashford, who clatters into a microphone and then the advertising board as he tries to keep the ball in play. No damage is done.

Close! Rudiger plays a diagonal ball out to Hudson-Odoi, who whips a cross almost perfectly into the path of Giroud. He stretches in an effort to meet it with his head, but can’t connect. The ball flashes past the far post and Giroud clatters against the woodwork, hurting himself in the process.

Shaw does well to win a corner on the left, but his delivery from the set piece is poor. Kante hacks clear.
