Roy Hodgson steps down as Crystal Palace manager
The 2023/24 Premier League season is under way and you can follow every game and every goal right here with The Independent.
Monday night sees a battle at the bottom as Everton host Crystal Palace with both teams desperate for points and the visitors having had a dramatic afternoon - first with Roy Hodgson resigning, following illness, and then Oliver Glasner being appointed as new manager - though he won’t be in the dugout.
The Toffees are in the bottom three and need victory tonight to leapfrog Luton Town, while Palace themselves are only five points clear of Everton. Follow the latest action from the Premier League below and see the latest match odds here.
Everton vs Crystal Palace
Everton and Palace share the points as the game finishes 1-1 at Goodison Park. The first half was a quiet affair with both teams struggling to create any clear-cut chances. The two teams headed into the break at 0-0, but the second half had plenty of action. The Toffees enjoyed more of the attacking play and were unfortunate not to take the lead, as Tarkowski and Doucoure both saw efforts scrambled off the line from a corner. Just a few moments later, Palace broke the deadlock as Ayew fired a wonderful strike into the top corner, leaving Pickford with no chance. Dyche's side threw everything at it to try and find an equaliser, and they eventually found one as Onana powered a header into the back of the net from a McNeil set-piece. Everton are now winless in their last eight Premier League matches (D4 L4) since a four-game winning run in December. It’s their longest run without a win since failing to win any of their last eight games under Frank Lampard (October 2022 – January 2023). Palace secure an impressive point on the road, considering the uncertainty behind the scenes with Hodgson leaving the club earlier in the day. That's all for today, goodbye!

Everton are still throwing everything forward despite finding an equaliser. Palace appear happy with the point, with Johnstone taking plenty of time when the ball drops to his feet. It would be a great result for the Eagles, who have struggled at Goodison Park in the past.

Tarkowski sends a long ball towards Mykolenko on the left, and he controls the ball into the path of McNeil, who wins a free-kick from Lerma in a dangerous position. McNeil will take and it's delivered into the box. Tarkowski is there to head it, but he sends it over the bar from just a few yards out. He has to do better!
