90+8 mins: France hold on for the win. They had to defend for an extra couple of minutes thanks to Rabiot’s play-acting but the world champions open their Euro 2020 account with victory over Germany.

90+3 mins: Rabiot is taken off by Didier Deschamps with Ousmane Dembele getting a run out for the final few minutes. Germany have had several crosses into the box headed clear but still they come. For effort alone they deserve an equaliser.

80 mins: The replays show that Hummels did get a touch. He tackled Mbappe from behind but nudged the ball away from the French forward. We’ve them given but that’s a top decision from the referee.

78 mins: How is that not a penalty? France send Mbappe away on the counter-attack and he’s left with a foot race against Hummels. The difference in pace is immense, Hummels can’t keep up with Mbappe who carries the ball into the box. He checks onto his right foot and gets ready to shoot. Hummels arrives and slides into the tackle. Mbappe goes to ground and referee Carlos del Cerro Grande waves play on. Hummels must have got a touch on the ball there.

75 mins: France have dropped deeper after the German onslaught earlier in the half. It seems to be nullifying the attacking threat of the Germans. Kimmich attempts another cross from the right side but Lloris comes confidently off his line and claims the ball.

72 mins: Here come the substitutions. Serge Gnabry and Kai Havertz are the two coming off for Germany with Timo Werner and Leroy Sane replacing them.

66 mins: Paul Pogba slots a lovely pass out to Kylian Mbappe on the left side. He brings the ball into the box and shimmies a couple of times. The German defenders hold off him before Mbappe feeds the ball through the three defenders blocking him, finds the inside of the far post and scores! Then the offside flag goes up so the goal doesn’t stand.
