"Coco is a nice person, and she wouldn’t mean it" - Swiatek on being directly hit by Gauff in her French Open win over
The French Open has reached its semi-final stage at Roland Garros but there will be a surprise finalist after Karolina Muchova stunned second seed Aryna Sabalenka in a thrilling contest on Philippe-Chatrier.
Muchova battled from a break down and saved match point in the deciding set to win an enthralling match 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 in over three hours. It’s the first time the Czech has reached a grand slam final and denied Sabalenka back-to-back majors following her Australian Open triumph earlier this season.
Iga Swiatek will look to book her place in the final as she takes on Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia. Swiatek has been in supreme form as the world No 1 looks to defend her French Open crown, with the Pole defeating Coco Gauff in straight sets to advance to the last four on Wednesday. Swiatek has yet to drop a set at this year’s Roland Garros.

French Open LIVE: Iga Swiatek vs Beatriz Haddad Maia latest score
*Iga Swiatek 6-2 Beatriz Haddad Maia
Swiatek jumps on a loopy backhand from Haddad Maia and snaps a forehand straight onto the line. It brings up set point and as Haddad Maia is again pushed back and floats another one high, it this time drifts long of the baseline.
That was superb from Swiatek after dropping the opening game - such a clever balance of defence and attack.

Break! Incredible defence from Swiatek! The Pole makes a wonderful recovery to meet Haddad Maia’s crosscourt backhand and hangs in the point, accepting the error as the Brazilian goes for a drop shot. Swiatek gets the break - and rather forced that by just making Haddad Maia play the extra shot.

Four out of Haddad Maia’s five matches so far at Roland Garros have lasted over two and a half hours, with the longest of those coming in at three hours and 51 minutes.
The Brazilian responds well to come back from 0-30 down against Swiatek - with her brilliant lefty forehand down the line proving too powerful.

Swiatek finds the groove on her big forehand and normal service is resumed as Haddad Maia nets on the exchange. There are still plenty of empty seats after the Sabalenka-Muchova epic, and it’s creating a strange atmosphere in these early stages.

Swiatek breaks straight back! The world No 1 made a positive start with a forehand winner down the line and it was followed by a couple of loose shots from Haddad Maia - not what was needed as she gives the break straight back.

French Open LIVE: Aryna Sabalenka vs Karolina Muchova latest score
The unseeded Czech fought back from 5-2 down in the deciding set to claim a 7-6 (5) 6-7 (5) 7-5 victory in a tremendous contest lasting three hours and 13 minutes.
Sabalenka, who was bidding to win back-to-back slam titles after lifting the Australian Open trophy, appeared to have turned things in her favour but tightened up in sight of the line and Muchova made her pay.
At 43 in the world, the 26-year-old is the fourth lowest-ranked woman to reach the final here, while it is the fifth year in a row that the final will feature an unseeded player.
A delighted Muchova said: “I don’t really know what happened. The atmosphere, it’s unbelievable. I just tried to keep fighting and it worked. I’m so happy.”
