Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has suggested that Harry Kane is the best centre-forward around in European football, but thinks Tottenham could keep hold of him this summer.
The England captain has been linked with big-money moves to the likes of Manchester United or Real Madrid and Redknapp feels he’d be a perfect fit for the Red Devils.
But with both teams having slumped somewhat of late, that might not be enough of an incentive for Kane to move to Old Trafford and, unless Jose Mourinho decides he can rebuild a better team with huge money from a sale, Redknapp sees the striker—who he labels a “special player”—staying put.
“He’s the best centre-forward certainly in the Premier League and of his type I don’t think there’s a better centre forward anywhere,” Redknapp said on TalkSport.
“He would be a great fit for Man United, he’d be a great fit for any team… but Man United at the moment are not better than Tottenham. I wouldn’t say there’s much between them, both teams are trying to get into the top four.”
The one caveat to the 26-year-old striker staying in north London could be a big bid from La Liga, and the prospect of allowing Mourinho to spend on other areas of the team.
“Whether Real Madrid or Barcelona came in, he might fancy a move like that one day.
“But at the moment he belongs to Tottenham, and unless Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy decide to cash in if it’s a crazy offer and rebuild the team with that money, unless Jose says, ‘I’ve got three players here we can sign and build a better team with’, then I’m sure he’ll stay at Tottenham.”
Kane has a long-term contract at Spurs, with four years still left to run, and recent reports suggested Spurs have no intention of letting him leave for Old Trafford.
