The jury is also shown a picture of her at the courthouse that day before explaining how she would usually cover bruises with makeup but had not on that occasion.

Jurors are shown a message sent from Depp to Heard on 22 May 2016 in which he wrote: ““I tried to make it work and you just turned more and more into a spoiled brat. All you wanted was to make me f***ing miserable ... I’ll never be able to understand how I fell in love with you ... I hope our divorce goes as quickly.”

She testifies that they had not discussed divorce that night because “he was obsessed with dog poop.”

In subsequent texts, he wrote that he was clean and sobre and was in clear mind and that it wasn’t “the monster” speaking.

He apologised profusely, but Heard says she had committed to filing for divorce.

Heard reiterates that she did not cooperate with the police officers who visited the apartment (both sets) in order to protect Depp.

“I did not want them to arrest Johnny. I didn’t want this to happen. I didn’t want any of this to happen ... I just refused to cooperate.”

The jury is shown a number of photos of the damage to the penthouse allegedly caused by Depp on that night in May 2016.

There are shards of glass, damaged pictures, and countertop items littering the apartment, and wine stains on the hallway carpeting outside the penthouses.

Asked why she did not cooperate with the police that night, she says that she wanted to protect Depp

“I didn’t want him to be in trouble. I didn’t want the world to know.”

Jurors are shown many pictures of Heard’s face taken after the alleged assault with the phone as well as the business card left by police officers.

Heard says when police arrived after iO called 911 she did not cooperate with them on the advice of her entertainment lawyer.

The jury is shown a photo of Heard’s face after she says Depp threw the phone at it.

Heard then says Depp began taunting her and smacks her on the top of her head as she still sat on the couch. He then yanked her hair back she says before Raquel Pennington came in and separated them.

Depp’s security team comes in and says: “Boss, boss!”

She says Depp picked up a bottle she believes he walked in with and leaves knocking things over and smashing things as he exits the apartment.

Heard says she then retreated to Raquel’s apartment where she stays for the next few hours.

Discussing the events of 21 May 2016, Heard says she and Depp got back in touch when his mother Betty Sue died.

He told her: “I need my wife.”

They made a plan for him to come over during the day to limit his drinking. She said he brought up the faeces on the bed again and kept going on and on about it.

Heard called her friend iO Tiller Wright on speakerphone and she says Depp kept screaming insults at her before walking up the stairs.

She says Tiller Wright told her to get out of the house as she was not safe.

Heard says Depp ran back down the stairs and snatched the phone and again began hurling abuse at Tiller Wright. She then says he threw the phone in her face.
