The Duke of Sussex has spoken out about the dangers of the internet in a conversation with author Jonathan Haidt.
Harry, 42, a passionate advocate of mental health awareness, told Fortune: “The smartphone is stealing young people’s childhoods.”
“It’s a double-edged sword,” he said, discussing the potential safety benefits of mobile phones.
“[Parents] want them to have their phone at school in case of emergency, but once, like any kid, you have your phone, even if you’re told you’re not allowed to download that app, kids have a way of working around it.”
Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales has ramped up her return to duty by making a surprise joint appearance with Prince William to meet the bereaved families of the Southport attacks.
Marking their first joint engagement since Kate’s cancer treatment, the couple privately met the families in Merseyside yesterday.
The Princess, 42, is said to have attended because she wanted to show her “support, empathy and compassion to the local community”.
“Meeting the community today has been a powerful reminder of the importance of supporting one another in the wake of unimaginable tragedy,” the couple later said in a joint statement.
As well as meeting with the victim’s families, Kate spoke to first responders and the dance teacher who was present at the July attack.
James Middleton has shared how his family, including sister Catherine, Princess of Wales has helped him with his depression. The 37-year-old author spoke openly about how the Middleton family supported him with his mental health problems, when he appeared on ITV’s Lorraine show on Thursday (26 September). Mr Middleton said: “To open up to my family was a very challenging step, so initially I went into therapy, and at the right time my family got involved and I was very fortunate, because they did have to be patient with me. “It was challenging for them to see me suffer but they understood a lot more than I actually thought.”

The royal family has shared a behind-the-scenes look at Buckingham Palace as a 780-strong team undertake a £360 million refurbishment of the historic building. As part of the palace’s reservicing programme, work is taking place in the basement, replacing old electrical cabling with brand new cables under the floors and throughout the historic building. In a new video, released by the royal family on Tuesday (8 October), workers can be seen pulling some of the 25,000 metres of cable through the basement. The vast amount is equivalent to the weight of 12 elephants and runns the length of 250 football pitches.

The Princess of Wales has made her first official public engagement since her chemotherapy ended alongside her husband.
Kate wore her favourite British labels for the occasion, donning the trending autumn colour palette of burgundies and chocolate browns to match William.
Kate re-wore an Alexander McQueen brown double breasted wool jacket and a burgundy and white polka dot midi dress with a pussy bow detail.
