Claimants will also usually have needed to live in England, Scotland or Wales for at least two of the last three years and be in one of these countries when they apply.
It should be noted PIP cannot be recieved by those who are already getting the armed forced independence payment.
PIP payments are tax-free and they can be received by those who are working or unemployed.
So long as a claimant is eligible, they could receive two sets of payments, depending on the severity of their condition.
To receive the mobility part, claimants must need help going out or moving around and this will usually be assessed by an independant healthcare professional.
To get the daily living part, claimants must need help more than half of the time with elements, such as:
- preparing or eating food
- washing, bathing and using the toilet
- dressing and undressing
- reading and communicating
- managing your medicines or treatments
- making decisions about money
- engaging with other people
