“Breaking into the top 10’s been a goal for me for the last two years. Covid’s sort of set that on the back-burner.

McKenna on the prospect of a UFC card in Wales:

“I think they’d definitely sell out, the way the Welsh support their fighters.”

“One thing I’ve kinda learnt is that there are too many variable – injuries, lay-offs – so I can’t necessarily set dates like that [to win a title]. I’m only going to disappoint myself.

“I know that’s gonna come. When it comes, I don’t mind. I’m gonna trust the process and take things one fight at a time.”

McKenna on being the first Welshwoman to fight in the UFC:

“That’s huge. That’s a title that no one’s ever gonna take away from me. It means a lot to me and my family; they’ve invested in me from the jump.”

McKenna, 22, is also the youngest women’s fighter in the UFC and the second youngest overall – behind Muhammad Mokaev.

“It’s nice for me to be at the forefront of women’s MMA. There are a lot of young girls on the scene, it’d be nice to help lead the way.”

McKenna on over-training in the past:

“Arnold [Allen]’s here as the co-main, but he’s also here as my babysitter.

“He’s been instructed to wrestle me if he sees me sneaking off for extra training!”

“I always aim for a finish. I’m not gonna call it, but wherever it goes, I’m sure I can get it done.”

“This is my first proper UFC experience; I haven’t fought in front of a crowd for three years.

“All my friends, all my family are coming out.

“The support from all the English and Welsh and everyone, it’s gonna be crazy.”

McKenna faces Elise Reed in a strawweight contest.

“I’m excited by any match-up,” she says. “I’m just excited to get in there and fight.

“She’s solid, that’s to be expected at this level.

“It’s a stereotypical striker versus grappler match-up; hopefully it’s nice and entertaining for the crowd.”
