Watch live a view of Kyiv's skyline as Russian troops advance on Ukraine's capital city

Russia is advancing on Kyiv with a huge convoy of armoured vehicles, tanks and other military equipment spanning more than 40 miles, according to new satellite images.

As the Russian invasion entered its sixth day, US senator Chris Murphy said Vladimir Putin’s troops are preparing for a “long and bloody” siege of the Ukrainian capital.

Yesterday, Ukraine was rocked by a number of huge explosions hours after the conclusion of the first round of peace talks between Russian and Ukrainian diplomats at a location on the Belarus border.

Sanctions slapped on Russian individuals and entities by Ukraine’s western allies appear to be mounting pressure on Putin.

Moscow has shut its stock markets till at least 5 March and the Russian Ruble has plummeted to a historic low.

Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court has announced it will investigate alleged Russian war crimes in Ukraine.

Minister praises Jaguar Land Rover for ‘pausing’ supply to Russia

British business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng welcomed a decision by Jaguar Land Rover to “pause” the delivery of vehicles to Russia.

Jaguar Land Rover will halt supply of vehicles to the Russian market

    (PA)

He said: “There is now a rapidly growing number of companies and governments joining the whole international community in isolating Russia, both diplomatically and financially.”

Jaguar Land Rover, which has its HQ and plants in the Midlands, sold about 6,900 vehicles to Russia last year.

It is thought sanctions imposed by the UK, the EU and the US are making it difficult for the British firm to sell cars to Russia.

A spokesperson said in a statement that the firm’s priority was “the wellbeing of our entire workforce and their families, as well as those within our extended network”.

The statement adds: “The current global context also presents us with trading challenges, so we are pausing the delivery of vehicles into the Russian market and continually monitoring the situation on behalf of our global customer base.”
